The Garden Philosophy is a boutique, Sydney based landscaping practice.

The Garden Philosophy was created in 2017 by Director Samuel Batterham. With a lengthy background of horticulture and design; working for a nursery while studying Landscape Architecture, and learning from other leading garden designers in Sydney, Sam opened the business with the support from Peter Fudge.

Initially the business focused heavily on garden maintenance and horticultural advice; over the years it has grown to offer all services within the garden and landscape industry. We have completed work throughout the Sydney metropolitan region, while extending our services from the South Coast, the Western Tablelands, and the North Coast of NSW.

Our unique approach to design allows us to collaborate well with clients to help discover the garden they are looking for.

Our Philosophy

The largest inspiration for the design process is the surrounding local environment, and the existing features of a site. Our focus on how to use a space, and the shaping of an area, is all linked to this inspiration and drives our design formation.

While the focus of the design is that on the surrounding environment, our business model and overarching focal point is to create enjoyable outdoor spaces for our clients to use. It is as much about the process as the finished product, and for us the enjoyment needs to be brought from the beginning and continue well after the end of a project.

Our team

We are a passionate team of landscape practioners with a diverse skillset that spans horticulture, carpentry, masonry and design. We collectively draw on our experience of local ecologies, refined craftsmanship and the unique Sydney environment to create beautiful, long-lasting gardens.

Where we work

We are based on Sydney’s Lower North Shore and operate throughout metropolitan Sydney, and the greater NSW area.
