The home – a modern family house a stones throw from Coogee beach – sits in a quiet, leafy street and the garden graced by a sunny, northerly aspect. The challenge was to extend the usable pool area and recreate the entrance to the garden. This would allow us to unlock the potential of the relatively small space.
This garden had been an old disused space, with the challenge being the natural slope of the land from West to East across the property.
The challenge was to turn a small internal courtyard, shaded by high house walls, into an internal oasis from all angles within the house.
The original design and installation of this garden was completed by Peter Fudge Gardens, in which we have had the priviledge of maintaining for many years. The garden consists of a variety of succulents, surrounded by grove plantings of Crepe Myrtles.
This garden is located on the corner of a busy intersection, with a southerly aspect, and heritage links to the house. Regardless of these constraints, the aim was to create an old transitional space into a useable, enjoyable experience where the garden user forgets where they are.
